Drifter writes off the page in Youngstown library restroom

YOUNGSTOWN – Police arrested a drifter inside Fort Niagara State Park recently after he allegedly posted graffiti inside the Youngstown Village Library on Lockport Street.

The man reportedly stopped into the library on Oct. 3 and told the librarian that he was passing through the area, bound for Lake Ontario. He spent about two hours inside the library, police said, repeatedly going into the facility's men's restroom. After he finally left, employees checked the restroom and found that it had been defaced with blue and silver paint markers with the phrase, "REFUSE RESIST REVOLT.''

The librarian called police and told them she had directed the man to the state park, where they found him walking near the waterfront. He had with him blue and silver paint markers and was further identified through library surveillance camera photographs. Michael J. Warmerdam, no age or address given, was charged with criminal mischief and was jailed in lieu of $500 bail.
