There's not a more contentious topic among Buffalonians than where to get the best chicken wings.
There are fierce advocates for Gabriel's Gate in Allentown. Food blogs often trumpet the supremacy of Nine-Eleven Tavern in South Buffalo. The Bar-Bill Tavern in East Aurora has become a tourist attraction for their deep-fried poultry.
Friendships have deteriorated over the great Anchor Bar vs. Duff's debate. Elmo's by the University at Buffalo's North Campus is considered a hidden gem.
Visit Buffalo Niagara, the city's chief tourism organization, intends to create a Wing Trail resource for visitors by the spring of 2018, and the public has a chance to voice opinions about which bars and restaurants should be included.
The instructions are fairly simple: Visit the three links below to choose the "top wing spots" from the Southtowns, Northtowns and the city. If your favorite hub isn't one of the predetermined options for each zone, there's one write-in spot.
Voting runs through the end of October.
The public vote is just one of several factors in narrowing the final list of 12 restaurants and bars to grace the Wing Trail. Visit Buffalo Niagara will also consult with National Chicken Wing Festival founder Drew Cerza, known informally as the Wing King, for the final list.
