22-year-old Wende prisoner serving life sentence dies

A prisoner serving a life sentence in Wende Correctional Facility in Alden died on Saturday morning, authorities said.

Dante Taylor, 22, died at an unspecified local hospital, according to the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. The circumstances surrounding Taylor's death were not disclosed.

Taylor was sentenced in 2016 to life without parole for the 2014 stabbing death of a 21-year-old Suffolk County woman, according to Newsday. Taylor was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of second-degree murder, according to state officials.

The Erie County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause of death. His death is being investigated by the DOCCS' Office of Special Investigations.
