[BN] Blitz newsletter: The Bills' passing game needs help, but the real problem is the running game

Bills fans can talk about Tyrod Taylor's shortcomings as a passer or the team's lack of receiving targets until they're blue in the face – and it's the bye week, so that's not out of the realm of possibility.

But don't lose sight of the bigger issue, Vic Carucci wrote: The Bills' failure in the running game is far and away the biggest problem facing the team. Many of the problems in the passing game stem from this issue.

"Until it improves significantly, the passing game and the offense as a whole will continue to be a (non-running) joke," Carucci wrote.

Logan Couture checks in: San Jose Sharks forward Logan Couture grew up as a Bills fan in London, Ontario. Sabres writer Mike Harrington caught up with him Wednesday: "Younger rookies have been great on defense and the team has exceeded my expectations," Couture said. "It was hard to see three wins in the first five games at all, but they've made it fun to watch so far."

"It's not about the anthem": Bills legend Thurman Thomas spoke about NFL player protests Wednesday. "This is something that we as African-Americans feel very, very proud of, what we're doing right now," he said. "It's not about the flag. It's not about the anthem. It's not about the military. It's about what has been going on for the past I don't know how many years, and I guess we're sick and tired of it, and now we're speaking out about it."

Power rankings: National power rankings think the Bills are still in the top half of the league after Sunday's loss to the Bengals.
