Eric Byrnes, self-described "lifetime Buffalo Bills apologist," is nevertheless conflicted about his team.
The 11-year Major League Baseball outfielder and MLB Network analyst joined this week's "Tim Graham Show" on Sports Radio 1270 The Fan with a pep-talk tradeoff: We told him why his Bills are fine in exchange for him explaining why my Cleveland Indians will be OK in Wednesday night's do-or-die Game Five showdown against the New York Yankees.
Byrnes loves Buffalo's defense, especially pass-rusher Jerry Hughes and safeties Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer, and is totally cool with quarterback Tyrod Taylor.
But Byrnes is skittish about the receiving corps.
Other subjects we discussed:
• What's missing from the Bills we see now and a Super Bowl contender.
• Whether it's mandatory to say nice things about people who just died.
• The Boston Red Sox's decision to fire manager John Farrell.
• That season Byrnes stole 50 bags and what happened to stolen bases.
Byrnes was only the 11th player to hit at least 20 home runs and steal at least 50 bases in a season, hit for the cycle and — my favorite stat — batted .409 against Greg Maddux.
"The Tim Graham Show" airs every Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. on 1270 The Fan. Listen to archived episodes and subscribe to the podcast on iTunes.
