Oishei Foundation gives $300,000 to City Mission

The John R. Oishei Foundation will give $300,000 over the next three years to the Buffalo City Mission's capital campaign.

The mission's Next Century Capital Campaign is accepting donations to help fund the construction of a new shelter, the organization said in a news release.

Plans for the new men's facility, which would replace the Men's Community Center on East Tupper Street built more than 30 years ago, include space for a medical clinic, health services, community legal services, case management, an emergency shelter, transitional housing, classrooms and a chapel.

Buffalo's homeless population increased 9 percent in 2016 and is expected to continue to grow, the missions said, citing the Homeless Alliance of Western New York.
