Williamsville was not the recipient of a $10 million state grant for its proposal to transform a warehouse into a brewery and improve the surrounding streets.
That Downtown Revitalization Initiative award went to Olean to revitalize its downtown neighborhoods and generate new opportunities for long-term growth.
But Williamsville officials say they remain committed to transforming the building at 34 W. Spring St. into a microbrewery, as well as a food cooperative, artisan market and artists' studio and gallery space.
The village has negotiated an extension of its exclusive option to buy the building from International Chimney Corp. until Nov. 15. And village officials plan to present the idea to the Amherst Industrial Development Agency at its meeting in early November. They hope the IDA's Local Development Corporation will remain interested in the proposal as the village seeks alternative funding sources.
