Cheektowaga would buy electric cars if it wins $250,000 energy grant

Cheektowaga plans to purchase 10 electric vehicles and install charging stations at Town Hall if it wins a $250,000 clean energy grant.

Assistant town engineer Peter Johnston talked about the plan Tuesday during a work session of the Town Board.

Lawmakers are expected to approve the grant application at its next regular session Oct. 23.  The proposal must be submitted to the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority by Nov. 18.

In August, the town was designated a Clean Energy Community by the authority, allowing it to apply for the grant.

The town would only purchase the electric cars and charging stations if it wins the grant.
