The congregation at Temple Beth Tzedek could begin work this week on its planned, $4 million synagogue addition on North Forest Road in Amherst.
Temple Beth Tzedek has merged with B'nai Shalom, located at 1641 N. Forest, and could move by fall 2018 from its longtime Getzville Road home, which it is selling to Northtown Automotive.
Work on the 10,210-square-foot synagogue addition, 100-space parking lot and landscaping on 4 acres at 1641 and 1623 N. Forest would begin with the demolition of two homes on the properties, said Harvey Sanders, the project chair.
The Amherst Planning Board in June approved the temple's plans over the objections of some neighbors, who said drainage was a problem and there weren’t enough parking spaces.
The synagogue is having a groundbreaking at 4 p.m. Sunday at 1641 N. Forest Road that is open to the public.
