A 2-month-old South Buffalo girl suffered a fractured skull, broken ribs and other injuries when her teenage father assaulted her over the weekend, Buffalo police said.
The infant was taken to Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo and was on life support in the pediatric intensive care unit Monday, said Lt. Jeff Rinaldo. She remained in critical condition.
Ziaire Davis, 17, of 388 Abbott Road, was charged with assault and endangering the welfare of a child, police said.
The incident took place before 4 p.m. Saturday at Davis' home, when police say the teenager shook his daughter, threw her into a bed and against the wall, according to a police report.
"It wasn't accidental," Rinaldo said. Davis has given a statement to investigators, he said.
A grandparent called 911, Rinaldo said, and the endangering charge relates to Davis' failure to seek help.
