Gas station employee hurt confronting fuel thief, police say

An East Side gas station worker's confrontation with a customer who pumped $15 worth of gas without paying for it ended with the customer pulling out a knife, slapping the employee in the face and driving off with the free gas, the employee later told police.

A summary of the report filed with Northeast District officers doesn't give the time of the incident, but it happened late Saturday or early Sunday at the We Pump Your Gas station at 2756 Bailey Ave., at Connelly Avenue.

The employee reported suffering scratches on an arm and hand in the scuffle with the customer, who drove off in a green Toyota 4Runner with no front license plate and a damaged front windshield. The station, connected to the Bailey Express Food Market, doesn't have video of the incident.
