Wide receiver Philly Brown's return to the Bills was short-lived.
Brown, who was signed Monday following the injury to Jordan Matthews, was released Saturday.
Brown, signed as a free agent in the offseason, spent all of training camp and the preseason with the Bills before his release as they trimmed their roster to 53.
Without Brown, the Bills will have four wide receivers: Zay Jones, Andre Holmes, Kaelin Clay and Brandon Tate. That could mean a big day for tight end Charles Clay.
The Bills promoted cornerback Greg Mabin from the practice squad to fill out the 53-man roster.
Maybin's move to the active roster could mean that E.J. Gaines is out against the Bengals.
Gaines is listed as questionable with a groin injury. Shareece Wright is also listed as questionable with a back injury, but he practiced Friday.
