Sabres Goal Light to illuminate Canalside, HarborCenter

For those who've explored Canalside this week, a tubular structure covered in tarp has piqued curiosities.

A representative from Canalside has explained that a Sabres Goal Light has been constructed between HarborCenter and the Courtyard Marriott, courtesy of Try-It Distributing and Budweiser.

The red lights situated atop a tower roughly 20-feet tall will be activated at 5 p.m. before every Sabres home game, beginning with the team's home opener Oct. 5 vs. the Montreal Canadiens through Dec. 1.

The Goal Light will remain lit through much of the first period of each game, but it will not flash when the Sabres score a goal. It's intended to be a photo opportunity for fans headed into the arena.

Budweiser recently released its Red Lights ($159.99), 11-inch-tall fixtures that sync with an iOS or Android Budweiser app to light up and flash when an NHL team of your choice scores a goal. It requires four D batteries and a Wi-Fi connection - so it's intended for watching games at home.
