A City of Tonawanda driver and his passenger who were stopped in a traffic stop by police Tuesday ended up being arrested on charges of drug possession, authorities said.
Lance Crowe, 34, of Morgan Street, was stopped for speeding and running a red light about 7:30 p.m. at Main and Wheeler streets, according to City of Tonawanda Police.
Officers found Crowe had a suspended driver's license and the vehicle had no license plates and was unregistered and uninsured, city police said.
A passenger in the vehicle allegedly tried to conceal an item under the seat which, when seized by police, turned out to be heroin and assorted pills, according to city police.
Police said the passenger gave officers a false name, but she was identified as Malary A. Ward, 31, of Morgan Street.
Officers found additional heroin in the vehicle, police said.
Crowe was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, criminal possession of a controlled substance and seven traffic charges, police said. Ward was charged with two counts of possessing a controlled substance, police said.
