Two days before the 43North finals are set to begin, one of the business plan competition's finalists has pulled out of the contest.
Selfycart, a San Mateo, Calif., startup that has developed an app that allows shoppers to avoid grocery checkout lines by scanning items as they put them in their shopping cart, has withdrawn from the competition, 43North officials said Tuesday.
With only two days before the 43North finals at Shea's Performing Arts Center and with most finalists already in town to prepare for the event, the contest will proceed with 15 finalists, rather than the original 16, organizers said.
Selfycart is the second startup among the 16 finalists announced last month to pull out of the contest. Last week, Fig Loans, a start-up that offers consumers with bad credit high-interest-rate loans that are less costly than controversial payday loans, backed out. Fig Loans was replaced by Moving Analytics, a San Francisco startup that is developing an app for use in cardiac rehabilitation.
