Dr. Nathan Jud

SET IN STONE – Dr. Nathan Jud, a paleobotanist and researcher at Cornell University, will be guest speaker at a program sponsored by the Buffalo Geological Society at 7:30 p.m. Friday in a new location – the Heritage Discovery Center, 100 Lee St. off South Park Avenue.
An expert in the early evolution of flowering plants, he will speak on “Paleobotany in Patagonia: Fossil Flowers and Fruits from the Early Paleocene of South America.” The program is free and open to the public. For more info, visit

HELPING VETS – ECAL (Erie County American Legion) Veterans for Veterans Inc. will hold its third annual 5K race/walk in honor of homeless female veterans on Sunday morning from South Buffalo Post 721, American Legion, 136 Cazenovia St.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. The race starts at 11. An after-race party and theme basket raffle will follow. Registration is $20 and can be made online at Proceeds will assist programs helping homeless female veterans and their children. For more info and donations, call Kathie Renner at 822-6121.
