St. Joe's junior outfield Will Carlone announced on Twitter he has verbally committed to play collegiate baseball at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Carlone is a two-year starter for the Marauders. The Coaches' All-Western New York second team selection hit .440 last year, helping his team win the Georgetown Cup as postseason champions of the Monsignor Martin High School Athletic Association.

VCU is a member of the Atlantic 10, the same conference as St. Bonaventure. It recently hired former longtime Canisius coach Mike McRae as an assistant coach. The Rams won 35 games last year but lost in the A-10 final.
Carlone selected the offer from VCU over Boston College, Pitt, Albany and Canisius.
St. Joe's graduating a player to the Division I ranks isn't new, and Carlone won't be the only college commit on the Marauders this year. Alex Zulia is committed to Niagara. Ex-Marauder Will Franks is now a sophomore at Canisius College.
