The prosecution of an Ohio man whose girlfriend's body was found in the trunk of his car in Niagara Falls this summer will take place in Ohio, Niagara County District Attorney Caroline A. Wojtaszek announced Friday.
The case against JeShawn Elliott, who was arrested Aug. 9 in the Falls after authorities found the body of Anvia Mickens, 28, of Youngstown, Ohio, will be prosecuted in Mahoning County, Ohio, Wojtaszek's office said.
"Once we obtained evidence that the murder took place in Youngstown, Ohio, we were comfortable that jurisdiction would not be an issue in the court," Wojtaszek said.
Mickens was reported missing by her mother in Ohio. She died from a combination of 23 stab wounds, 14 lacerations and strangulation, police said.
Wojtaszek is considering whether to pursue charges against Elliott for allegedly threatening Niagara Falls police when he was apprehended.
