D'Youville to host first inauguration in 38 years

Lorrie A. Clemo, appointed 15th president of D'Youville College last December, will be formally inaugurated to the post in a ceremony at 4 p.m. Friday in Kleinhans Music Hall.

Clemo is the first lay president in the 109-year history of the Catholic college on Buffalo's West Side. It will be the first inauguration ceremony at D'Youville in 38 years.

Clemo formerly was provost and vice president of SUNY Oswego when the D'Youville Board of Trustees picked her last December to succeed Sister Denise Roche.

Roche had served as D'Youville president from 1979 to 2016, one of the longest tenures in the country for a college president.

Prior to Clemo, the 14 presidents were all women religious, members of the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart, a Catholic order that founded the college.
