Traffic on the northbound North Grand Island Bridge will be shifted to the southbound span from 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, through 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2, to make deck repairs to the bridge.
The closure is part of an $8.4 million improvement project on the deck that began in June, according to the New York Thruway Authority.
All traffic on the I-190 will be shifted into a single lane on the southbound North Grand Island Bridge and overhead signals will be used to direct traffic over the bridge during the scheduled closure.
Contractor Oakgrove Construction of Elma will pour a new polyester deck overlay to the bridge which is designed to provide a smoother riding surface. All work is weather-dependent. Overall, the project included work on the deck as well as the joints.
Traffic information is available at the Thruway Authority's interactive Traveler Map.
