Buffalo News Sports Columnists Bucky Gleason and Jerry Sullivan offered their opinions on national anthem demonstrations, Jim Kelly’s criticism of LeSean McCoy’s chosen method of protest, and Jerry Hughes’ reaction to Kelly’s critique during their weekly radio show on 1270 The Fan on Monday.
Bucky: “I thought there was a better way for McCoy to handle it … McCoy could have knelt with everyone else that was kneeling, or he could have stood there and locked arm in arms rather than act like the anthem wasn’t even being played.”
Sully: “Jim Kelly is a good old boy. He’s a lot more like the people, the old white men who put Trump in office than the guys on NFL teams.”
Bucky and Sully also broke down Tyrod Taylor’s performance in the Bills’ victory over the Broncos on Sunday.
Sully: “Jeez, I hope people after a couple more games aren’t like ‘maybe he is a franchise quarterback? Give him that big contract, forget Sam Darnold, forget [Mason] Rudolph, forget Baker Mayfield, Tyrod’s the guy because boy he looked like a franchise quarterback for two minutes yesterday.’ ”
Bucky: “I still think that they are going to turn the page on Taylor. And I still think that they should.”
Jeff Schultz from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution joined the show to preview the Bills upcoming matchup with the Falcons.
