What to watch for Saturday
1. Football - Week Four Saturday
A pair of local matchups to keep an eye on:
- McKinley vs. South Park, 1 p.m. at All High Stadium
- Southwestern at Cleveland Hill, 2 p.m.
Old Harvard Cup rivals McKinley (1-2, 0-2) and South Park (3-0, 2-0) in a Class A South showdown. The Sparks have given up the least points in Western New York with just seven in a 30-7 opening win at Hamburg. They have 42-0 wins against Amherst and Perry Traditional (Pa.). The Macks (1-2, 0-2) opened with an impressive win at Orchard Park but have faltered the past two games against West Seneca West and West Seneca East.
Southwestern (3-0) and Cleveland Hill (2-1) clash in a rematch of last year's Class C title game, which the Eagles won in convincing fashion, 52-21. The Trojans have wins over Chautauqua Lake, Silver Creek/Forestville and Allegany-Limestone. Cleve Hill came back last week to beat Rochester's University Prep at home. They opened the season with a loss to Maryvale and win at Wilson.
2. Boys soccer - Lancaster at Williamsville North, 11 a.m.
No. 6 large school Lancaster (6-1-2, 4-1-1) and No. 2 Williamsville North (8-1, 5-1) meet for the second and final time this regular season. The Spartans won, 2-0, back on Aug. 29.
North's loss came two games later at No. 1 Clarence, 1-0. Senior Justin Bonetto leads the team with 11 goals. Classmates Blake Ferrell and Anand Murali each have seven.
The Legends tied Clarence, 1-1, on Monday and also tied Grand Island by the same score to open the season. Six players have at least three goals, led by Jason Martin's seven.
3. Volleyball - Tournament action
Frontier hosts its girls tournament at the Buffalo Niagara Court Center in West Seneca, while Chautauqua Lake hosts one as well. St. Mary's of Lancaster is participating in the 40-team Victor Tournament in Rochester.
On the boys side, Sweet Home and Kenmore West both host tournaments.
4. Cross country - East Aurora Invitational
Many of Western New York's best runners meet at East Aurora High School for the school's annual invite. Racing starts at 8:30 a.m.
- Boys soccer: St. Joe's at Kenmore East, 3 p.m.
- Girls soccer: Wilson at Newfane, 10 a.m.
