Williamsville man charged with aggravated DWI

A Williamsville man with a prior conviction for driving while intoxicated was charged early Friday morning with aggravated DWI after a traffic stop on the Kensington Expressway, State Police said.

Joseph J. Lops, 49, was pulled over at 2:11 a.m. in Cheektowaga for speeding, police said, and at the Buffalo barracks, he registered a blood-alcohol content of 0.21 percent, nearly three times the legal limit.

Police charged him with three felonies: aggravated DWI, DWI with a prior conviction in the last 10 years and operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 percent or more with a prior conviction in the last 10 years. He was also charged with numerous vehicle and traffic violations.

He was released to a sober person and is scheduled to appear in Cheektowaga Town Court on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
