Medaille gets grant to prep city students for college

Medaille College will help as many as 60 Math, Science and Technology High School students get ready for college, using a $1.3 million federal grant over five years.

The grant from the U.S. Education Department will fund Medaille's Upward Bound program, college and city school district officials announced Friday.

Medaille will provide tutoring, college entrance exam preparation, assistance with admissions and financial aid applications and a summer bridge program for students at MST High.

D'Youville College officials announced in May that D'Youville also received a $1.3 million Upward Bound grant to benefit 57 students at International Prep High School and Leonardo Da Vinci High School.

Upward Bound was designed to improve high school graduation rates and prepare students for the academic rigors of college.
