Take better care of veterans who have sacrificed so much
Last week, at the facility where I work as a physical therapist assistant, we had a young man come into our clinic for treatment who was a veteran of the military. As we began to do an examination of impairments, gait and functional limitations, we found out that he needed an assistive device such as a straight cane or a walker to assist with his gait deviations.
We asked him why he isn’t using a cane to help with his gait, and he told us that the VA would not supply him with the device at this time and is waiting for approval. A $20 cane could not be provided to someone who protected our country and fought for our freedom? It was a real eye-opener to see firsthand how our veterans are being treated. The government must take care of these heroes who have sacrificed so much for us. Let’s starting addressing the issue now.
