A Buffalo man accused in a violent attack on a woman last June pleaded guilty in State Supreme Court Friday morning to attempted assault in the first degree.
In exchange for the guilty plea, Justice Deborah Haendiges agreed that she would sentence Felix Velazquez to no more than 10 years in prison and five years post-release supervision when he returns before her on Nov. 3.
Velazquez, 31, was arrested June 4, 2016, the day after he assaulted Alicia Martinez. The woman was strangled with a cord, pushed down a flight of basement stairs and beaten repeatedly with an aluminum baseball bat, according to the police report.
Velazquez originally was charged with attempted murder, assault and strangulation.
