Milk tanker crashes in Wyoming County

A tanker truck hauling milk rolled over Wednesday morning in Wyoming County, according to authorities.

The driver was airlifted to Erie County Medical Center for leg and chest injuries after he was extricated from the wreckage, the Wyoming County Sheriff's deputies said.

Investigators believe the driver, Ja-Ryan Marquis Steen, 24, of Arcade, was driving east on Beaver Meadow Road in Java at about 11:15 a.m. when he failed to stop at a stop sign at State Route 98.  Steen, who just left a farm on Beaver Meadow moments before, drove off the east side of State Route 98 into a deep ravine and the tanker turned on its side, the sheriff's office said. Steen's condition was not known Thursday.

Authorities did not say whether the tanker leaked its milk, but said the Wyoming County Haz-Mat team responded to the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
