Animal abuse is no laughing matter, but the Stand Up for Pits organization is hoping to use those laughs for good with a comedy fundraiser show for Fix-A-Bull WNY at Helium Comedy Club Sept. 24.
The SUFP Foundation was formed to end abuse, discrimination and save the lives of pitbull-type dogs. Because of their appearance and stigma, pitbull-type dogs can be often discriminated against and abused. The SUFP Foundation will team with Fix-A-Bull WNY, a breed-specific spay and neuter program, and Buffalo’s Silver Lining Pit Bull Rescue, to raise money for the cause. In addition to ticket sales, the groups will be collecting donations, selling merchandise and offering a silent auction.
Comedian Rebecca Corry will headline the fundraiser. A nationally-touring comedian and actress, Corry founded the SUFP Foundation to raise awareness for pitbull-type dogs and fight against breed-specific legislation. In addition to Corry, local comics Rick Matthews, Brandon Trusso and Jameel Key will also perform.
The evening begins at 4 p.m. with a donation drive for the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter and adoption event. The silent auction will be held from 5 to 10 p.m., and the comedy show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $40 and are available at the Stand Up for Pits (www.standupforpits.us) and Helium (buffalo.heliumcomedy.com) websites.
