West Seneca has a new finance director.
The Town Board created the position Monday night, and appointed Megan Wnek to the position.
The position is "budget neutral," Supervisor Sheila Meegan said, because the town will no longer need to contract with outside accounting firm Drescher & Malecki for $140,000.
Wnek will be paid $70,000 a year. Her salary and the cost of benefits will allow the town to save $30,000 to $40,000 a year, Councilman Eugene Hart said.
"Drescher & Malecki will still be available to us for special projects," he said.
Meegan said Wnek had worked for Drescher & Malecki and for the past three years has worked on West Seneca finances for the accounting firm.
Meegan said West Seneca was one of just a few large towns in Erie County without a director of finance.
