After a month of technical rehearsals in Shea's Performing Arts Center, the national tour of "On Your Feet!" is finally on its feet.
The show, which chronicles the lives and careers of pop music star Gloria Estefan and her producer husband Emilio Estefan, opens with a preview on Sept. 22 and runs through Sept. 30.
The Broadway production, directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell ("Kinky Boots," "Legally Blonde"), ran for two years to generally positive reviews and audience reception in the Marquis Theatre. It takes audiences on a journey through the Estefans' lives as champions of Cuban-American music, from their early days in the Miami neighborhood of Little Havana to the super-stardom of the 1990s and beyond.
In his review of the Broadway production in the New York Times, Charles Isherwood wrote that the show "offers a music-business bio-drama laced with hurdles, and a score stuffed with familiar songs." These include "Conga," "Rhythm is Gonna Get You" and "Get on Your Feet." The show also features a new song, written by Gloria Estefan and her daughter Emily.
"On Your Feet!" runs Sept. 23 to 30 in Shea's Performing Arts Center, with a preview performance on Sept. 22. Tickets are $37 to $87. Call 847-1410 or visit sheas.org.
