Beer notes: Fall Beer Fest, Ballpark Brew Bash in Beer Week

Woodcock welcomes all

Woodcock Brothers Brewery (638 Lake St., Wilson) will hold its second annual New York Fall Beer Festival at 6 p.m. Sept. 22. See a Smiles gallery from the 2016 event.

The event is open to the public; drink tickets cost $3 each and are good for a 5-ounce pour of any of the over 20 different fall beers (all from New York State) featured at the event, which serves as the kickoff for Buffalo Beer Week.

Live music, lawn games and food trucks will also be on-site. Call 333-4000.

Ballpark Brew Bash is back again

The keystone event of Buffalo Beer Week is the Ballpark Brew Bash, held at Coca-Cola Field (1 James D. Griffin Plaza) from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 23.

Tickets are $35 for general admission ($45 day-of, available at Consumers Beverages, the Buffalo Bisons Ticket Office or at and allows attendees to sample beers from over 50 breweries from across the world while touring the home of the Bisons.

12 Gates scales Mountains of the Moon

12 Gates Brewing Company (80 Earhart Dr., Williamsville) will release its new IPA (India pale ale), Mountains of the Moon, on Sept. 23. The 6.1 percent ABV (alcohol by volume) beer was brewed in collaboration with Scott McMillan, whose homebrewed IPA won a gold medal at the second annual Niagara County Fair Homebrew Competition. Expect notes of evergreen, pear, melon and passion fruit. Call 906-6600.

Flying Bison embraces Mardi Gras theme

Flying Bison Brewing Company (840 Seneca St.) will host NOLA Fest, a Mardi-Gras-style party benefiting the Arts Services Initiative of WNY and NOLA Pay It Forward, from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 22.

The event is free, with $5 tickets for beer and food available, including a Cajun-style buffet, as well as a specialty beer, HERCicanes, which combines Flying Bison’s Herc barleywine, Snowy Owl Hurricane Kombucha, and Grenadine. Call 873-1557.

Community Beer Works to release refreshing late-summer brew

Community Beer Works (15 Lafayette Ave.) will launch its new beer Boats and Gose on Sept. 22. The beer is brewed with coriander seed and sea salt, and conditioned on concord grapes. The result is a refreshing 4 percent ABV beer for the end of summer. Call 759-4677.

Beer Goddesses to hold a birthday party

The Buffalo Beer Goddesses will celebrate their fifth anniversary party upstairs at Mr. Goodbar (1110 Elmwood Ave.) at 6 p.m. Sept. 21.

Admission is $10 ($5 for BBG members), and includes your first pint of Flying Bison beer, homemade goods, Goodbar’s famous wings, homebrew samples, Steampunk Cider samples and more.

Moor Pat joins forces with Other Half

Moor Pat (78 E. Spring St., Williamsville) will hold a tap takeover by Other Half Brewing Company (Brooklyn, NY) at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 27. Check the Facebook event link for the full tap list the week of the event. Call 810-9957.

Big Ditch challenges you to shuffleboard

Big Ditch Brewing Company (55 E. Huron St.) will hold the 3rd annual Local Brewers Shuffleboard tournament at 6 p.m. Sept. 21, open to the public for spectating. The brewery will also be tapping a pilot of its Trois IPA, brewed with Azacca, Mosaic, Simcoe and Zeus hops. Call 854-5050.
