Memorial service set for Brother Louis Mauro

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sept. 23 at Canisius High School for Brother Louis Mauro, a Lackawanna native and former treasurer at the high school, who died July 28. He was 75.

A graduate of Father Baker High School, Mauro joined the Society of Jesus in 1961 at St. Andrew-on-Hudson in Poughkeepsie. He received his bachelor's degree from Canisius College in 1975 and pronounced final vows at Canisius High School in Buffalo in 1978. He was ordained to the diaconate in 1982, also in Buffalo.

Mauro served as a permanent deacon of the Diocese of Buffalo and the Archdiocese of Newark, N.J. In the Jesuit order, he served as treasure of the Xavier Jesuit community and was a former treasurer of Canisius High School.

Other assignments included McQuaid Jesuit High School in Rochester; the Jesuit Provincial Office in Syracuse; St. Peter’s Prep and Parish of the Resurrection in Jersey City, N.J.; and Xavier High School in New York City.

He is survived by two sisters, Annette Salemi and Loretta Tomasulo.
