What to watch for Friday

1. Football - Friday Night Lights

Of the 27 games being played locally tonight, here are three to keep an eye on:

  • Maryvale at Olean, 7 p.m.
  • Franklinville/Ellicottville at Maple Grove, 7 p.m.
  • Williamsville East at Williamsville South, 7:15 p.m.

Class B contenders Maryvale (2-0) and Olean (2-0) meet in an interdivisional game. The Flyers, who have two quality wins over Cleveland Hill and Pioneer, are led by sophomore QB Connor Desiderio and junior playmaker Rashad Law. The Huskies, led by RB/LB Dylan Vincent, have wins over Allegany-Limestone and Fredonia/Westfield/Brocton.

The last two Section VI Class D champs square off at defending state runner-up Maple Grove. The Red Dragons (2-0) have blowout wins over Gowanda/Pine Valley and Salamanca so far. Franklinville/Ellicottville (2-0) opened up with a league win over Randolph/Frewsburg and then picked up a win at South Allegheny (Pa.) last week.

Williamsville South (2-0) will celebrate the grand-opening of its new turf complex against crosstown rival Williamsville East (0-2). The quarterback-receiver duo of Josh Foster and Cody Sanford has been clicking for the Billies in their wins at Clarence and Kenmore East. New Flames coach Mike Torrillo, a longtime assistant under John Faller at Sweet Home, is still looking for his first win. East's losses have come at Starpoint and Williamsville North.

Miguel Rodriguez previewed five additional games in his Fab Five for Week Three:
