Canisius College men's basketball coach Reggie Witherspoon added to his roster with the announcement Tuesday that Marcale Lotts, a 6-foot-8, 230-pound forward from New Orleans, has joined the team for the 2017-18 season. Lotts played at Jacksonville College, a two-year school and the same junior college that former Griffs guard Kiefer Douse played.
"Marcale comes to us as an upperclassman who will benefit us from a maturity aspect in addition to what he brings to the basketball court," Witherspoon said. "He has good size and we are hoping that he will come in and help us establish more depth across our frontline."
Lotts played 23 games with 18 starts for Jacksonville last season. He averaged 6.6 points and 5.1 rebounds. He had a career-high 17 points and two double-doubles in points and rebounds. He was the MVP of his high school team, Akins in New Orleans.
The Golden Griffins also added a game to their schedule for the coming season. Canisius will face Elon College of the Southern Conference at 7 p.m on Tuesday, Dec. 19 at the Koessler Center. Canisius and Elon have met twice previously, most recently in the 2013 Preseason NIT.
With junior goalkeeper Emily Janiszewski (Orchard Park) registering shutouts in three of the four games the Geneseo women's soccer team is off to a 4-0 start and ranked No. 15 in the nation by the United Soccer Coaches. Janiszewski has allowed only one goal so far, in the season opener to St. Lawrence, and is 26th in NCAA Divison III and first in the State University of New York Athletic Conference with a .960 save percentage.
