Give the ‘Dreamers’ a path to citizenship
They are here! And “that’s a fact, Jack!” I’m talking about the “Dreamers,” of course. If they are working, they are contributing to the economy and we have invested in them through education and on-the-job training. If they are in school, we have and are continuing to invest in them. Humanity and morality aside, why would a rational country waste money and manpower to round up and then ship this valuable investment off to another country? It makes no moral sense. It makes no economic sense. And in the long run, it doesn’t even make political sense. Give them a path to citizenship and their parents legal status.
As every rational person should know, undocumented immigrants came to work, not rape, pillage and burn. If no one hired them, they wouldn’t come. How come the Republicans, who like to burble about the rule of law, are so amazingly quiet about punishing the people who hire them?
We must do our best to eschew obfuscation, espouse elucidation and lean into the “light.”
