The Sabres have already improved their defense. They're giving Cody Goloubef a chance to make it better.
Buffalo has signed Goloubef to a professional tryout contract, the team announced Tuesday. The 27-year-old defenseman has 129 games of NHL experience with Columbus and Colorado.
Goloubef played 33 games for the Avalanche last season, recording five assists and a minus-11 rating. The Blue Jackets selected him in the second round of the 2008 NHL Draft, and the University of Wisconsin product spent six seasons in the organization.
The 6-foot-1, 201-pounder played 79 games for Columbus from 2014 to 2016, recording one goal, 16 assists and a plus-9 rating.
The Sabres, who report to training camp Sept. 14, added Marco Scandella, Nathan Beaulieu and Victor Antipin to the blue line this offseason.
