Former Bills player and CBS correspondent Steve Tasker joined John Murphy and Donald Jones on WGR-550 AM on Tuesday.
Tasker will be on hand for the Houston-Jacksonville game this weekend, and CBS will be covering the national anthem live, which will honor the first responders to Hurricane Harvey. Tasker also chatted about his time as a Houston Oilers player, and the similarities to the Saints return to the Super Dome after Hurricane Katrina.
Murphy, Jones and Tasker also talked about the Bills' upcoming celebration of the Bills' "Comeback" game versus Houston at half time this Sunday, which will tie into a fundraiser for Houston Hurricane Harvey flood victims. Fans can text "Harvey" to 9099 and donate $10 to the relief effort. Tasker then talked about the turning point for him in the comeback game being the recovery of Buffalo's surprise onside kick, which in turn got the crowd back into it.
Tasker stayed on to chat about the strengths of the Bills' roster and focused on the defensive line, with a nod being given also to the special teams and the starting safeties. Finally, Tasker chatted with callers and talked about the nuances of the 2017 return game overall in the NFL, citing the importance of situational awareness returning kicks out of the end zone and giving up 30-plus yards as a result.
Patriots beat reporter Ben Volin of the Boston Globe also was interviewed, discussing Anquan Boldin as a potential replacement to Julian Edelman and the stumbling blocks that would prevent that, the speed of the new Patriots receiving corps, and a preview for the Patriots-Chiefs game Thursday.
Donald Jones: "Charles Clay can be your deep threat, either along the sideline or up the field."
John Murphy (on defense): "Three yards per carry in the preseason allowed by the defense. ... I think they could surprise some people."
Steve Tasker on the "Comeback": "It's a mile-marker in everybody's life. We all have a story about it."
Steve Tasker: "I think certainly the defensive line is the most proven, no question about it."
Ben Volin: "There's been no indication the Patriots have tried to contact Boldin, but Belichick respects his toughness and play on the field."
