Comedy on Tap: Matt Bergman, Shawn Wayans and Barrel of Laughs

It’s another loaded comedy weekend in Buffalo as several venues are helping you laugh your way into fall. Here are our picks:

Buffalo native Matt Bergman started doing area open mics over a decade ago. Now he’s working as a headliner in many clubs around the country, already released his first album “A Little Bit Balder Now” and was featured on AXS TV’s “Live at Gotham.” Bergman returns to his hometown with shows at at 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. Sept. 9 at Rob’s Comedy Playhouse (1340 North Forest Road). Shawn Wayans will perform five shows at Helium Comedy Club.

If there was such a thing as a royal family for comedy, Shawn Wayans would qualify. He’s just one member of a hilarious, prolific family that includes Keenen Ivory, Damon and Marlon Wayans. Shawn Wayans worked with various members of his family on film and television projects like “In Living Color,” “The Wayans Bros.,” “Scary Movie” and “White Chicks.” Wayans performs five shows at Helium Comedy Club (30 Mississippi St.): 7:30 and 10 p.m. Sept. 8 and 9 and 7:30 p.m. Sept. 10. Seneca Niagara Casino’s Bear’s Den Showroom turns the stage over to Dov Davidoff and Adam Newman for another installment of the Barrel of Laughs Comedy Night at 8 p.m. Sept. 7. Davidoff has appeared on Comedy Central (including the acclaimed “Chappelle’s Show” sketch series) and many late-night talk shows. Newman released his second album, “Killed,” and has performed on Comedy Central and HBO. Tickets are $20 or $60 for blocks of four seats. Info:
