Storms divert five flights to WNY airports

Thunderstorms in Toronto and elsewhere forced five flights to be diverted to Buffalo Niagara International Airport and Niagara Falls International Airport late Monday afternoon, the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority reported.

A Canadian Air Transat flight from Rome, Italy, to Toronto, landed in Niagara Falls about 5:15 p.m. It was expected to take off for Pearson International Airport in Toronto around midnight, NFTA spokeswoman Helen Tederous said.

Two other Air Transat planes – from Vancouver to Toronto and from Calgary to Montreal – arrived a short time later. The flight to Toronto left at 10:30 p.m. and the Montreal-bound flight was due to take off after 10 p.m., Tederous said.

In Buffalo, American Eagle Flight 4407, bound from Charlotte, N.C., to Toronto, landed about 6:20 p.m. United Airlines Flight 1913, headed from Los Angeles to Cleveland, touched down here shortly before 8 p.m. Both were still on the ground late Monday, according to the airline websites.
