Mary L. O’Mara, of Cheektowaga, a licensed practical nurse and formerly an artist at The Buffalo Evening News, died Aug. 24 under hospice care after a struggle with cancer. She was 74.
Born in Buffalo, the second of four children, the former Mary L. Stock was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy. She worked as a copy aide and artist at The News in the 1960s.
“She was fantastically artistic,” her son Brian said. “Painting, quilting, sewing, decorations, you name it and she had an inherent talent for it.”
After her youngest child was in school, Mrs. O’Mara attended Erie Community College and became a licensed practical nurse.
She worked at Hospice Buffalo and St. Francis Nursing Home in Amherst, retiring about 10 years ago.
She was a longtime parishioner at Infant of Prague Catholic Church and was active in Catholic Charities at the church.
