Cheeseburger competition along the Niagara Falls Boulevard corridor gets more crowded with next week's planned opening of Five Guys Burgers and Fries.
The restaurant aims for a Sept. 9 opening at 1551 Niagara Falls Blvd., in the space in Amherst's Burlington Plaza formerly occupied by Corner Bakery Café.
Work on the restaurant began in June. It will employ about 50 when it opens, said Jay Ineson, who handles human resources and payroll for Roc N Burgers LLC, the company through which Five Guys operates its local stores.
The Amherst location is the eighth Five Guys in the Buffalo area, stretching from Jamestown to its Lockport restaurant, which opened in July.
It joins a Cheeburger Cheeburger up the road, and a Checkers farther north on the Tonawanda side.
