Richies Soul Food Restaurant opens in former Molly's Pub

Richies Soul Food Restaurant and Lounge has opened in the University Heights space that was formerly Molly's Pub.

Located at 3199 Main St., it's an all-day operation, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Owner Malik Jackson said he aims to serve both year-round neighbors and University at Buffalo students. "I want to serve people who might not have the deep pockets but want something wholesome," he said. It's his first restaurant, and it has been serving food for about two weeks.

There are about 90 seats, with a bar in the upper level of the two-story space. Jackson said he planned to serve beer and wine eventually.

The breakfast menu, served all day, includes omelettes ($4.99), an egg sandwich ($2.99), tofu on a bagel ($3.99) and fish and grits ($8.99). Lunches include cold subs ($7.99), hot subs like a steak and sausage hoagie ($8.99) and a beef hot dog ($2.50).

For dinner, fish dinners ($10.99) include haddock, whiting and perch, and a whole roast chicken is $12. Caribbean dishes like curry chicken and stew fish ($10.86) are also available.

In 2014, Molly's Pub was closed when a patron died after being thrown down stairs by a manager.

Hours: 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m.-midnight Friday, Saturday. Phone: 313-8034.
