If this were the Onion, we'd start this news brief with something like, "Gullible people plan mass protest at Onion editor's lecture at Daemen."
But since it isn't, we'll just tell you the founder and longest-serving editor-in-chief of the satirical online news publication will speak Sept. 7 at Daemen College.
Scott Dikkers will give a presentation, "The Funny Story Behind the Funny Story,” on seizing new opportunities and starting the Onion. The site has generated numerous viral videos, three TV series and two New York Times best-selling books.
The event, which is free and open to the public, takes place at 5 p.m. in the college's Wick Campus Center Social Room and will be followed by a reception until 6:30 p.m.
It is one of several activities being featured as part of Daemen’s inaugural Founders Celebration, which marks the college's 70th anniversary.
