The Town of Amherst will hold its annual “9/11 Ceremony of Remembrance” at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 11 at the Amherst Memorial Hill Grove, a living memorial to the victims of the terror attacks that is located along the Ellicott Creek Trailway.
The grove is seven-tenths of a mile from the trailway's entrance at North Forest Road, between West Klein and Maple roads.
The program includes a presentation of colors by the Amherst Police Department honor guard and a reading of names of local 9/11 victims. The 30-minute ceremony will be held rain or shine. Seating is available but participants are invited to bring lawn chairs.
Volunteers from the Youth Engaged in Service Program also will set up small American flags on the Amherst Municipal Building front lawn, 5583 Main St., Williamsville, starting on Sept. 7. The flags will remain for about a week.
