WELCOME MAT – The Strong Start Early Learning Academy at the Church of the Annunciation, 7580 Clinton St., Elma, will hold an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Annunciation again will offer a two-day Pre-K3 program Tuesday and Thursday, a three-day Pre-K3 program Tuesday through Thursday and a Pre-K4/5 program Monday through Friday. All classes are held from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

DESIGN FOR LIVING – Preservation Buffalo Niagara will sponsor a workshop, “Interior Design for Historic Homes,” at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Market Arcade Conference Room, 617 Main St. Leading the session will be designers from Tres Jolie Maison Inc. of Buffalo.
The workshop will discuss popular design styles, from flooring to cabinets, and provide tips on how to work with the historic characteristics of older homes. Cost is $20. To register, visit preservationbuffaloniagara.org.

KITCHEN AID – The Rural Outreach Center in East Aurora, which provides a variety of services for people in rural areas in the Southtowns and the Southern Tier, is starting a special nutrition program for parents and children.
“Through the program, we will offer cooking and nutrition classes once a month for a year,” says ROC program director Susan Giovino, “and the Roycroft Campus in East Aurora has graciously offered to host those classes.”
Created by dietary interns from the University at Buffalo, the program will give parents cooking lessons while their children learn about food and nutrition via books, games and activities. After the parents cook a meal, the children will join them for dinner.
The program, partially funded by the Junior League of Buffalo, also will purchase kitchen equipment for participants. Also contributing are the WNY Foundation, East Aurora Cooperative Market and local farmers. For more information, call 240-2220 or visit theroc.co.
