Dunkirk firefighters put out blaze behind NRG Energy plant

DUNKIRK – Dunkirk firefighters took about 45 minutes Sunday afternoon to extinguish a blaze on a fishing platform behind the NRG Energy power plant in Dunkirk Harbor, a Fire Department spokesman reported.

The Fire Department received a report of the fire in the vicinity of railroad tracks near Point Drive North shortly after 3 p.m., the spokesman said. When firefighters arrived at the scene, he said, they found a portion of the 25-by-25-foot fishing platform burning.

The blaze was put out using a hose line and hand tools, the spokesman added. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
