An alleged robbery on the East Side was followed by a series of car crashes late Saturday.
Buffalo police said a man called to report he had been robbed with a black pistol at Genesee Street and Floss Avenue, by a man driving a Cadillac. By the time police arrived, the caller was gone and not answering his phone.
Police received a report of a car crash about a mile away from the reported robbery. A witness told police an Audi chased a Cadillac westbound on Weston Avenue to Bailey Avenue and intentionally rear-ended the Cadillac.
The Audi attempted to flee south on Bailey but struck a building near Weston, causing "substantial damage," police said. The driver of the Cadillac fled on foot, and occupants of the Audi chased him, before coming back on to Weston, according to police. Some of them fled in a Hyundai, police said.
Another witness found a phone at Bailey and Easton Avenue – near the crash site – which was connected to the Audi's Bluetooth device, with the phone number used by the person who reported the robbery, police said.
Police said a Hyundai was reportedly involved in a hit-and-run at Suffolk Street and Gerald Avenue, less than half a mile from where the Audi crashed into the building on Bailey. The owner of the same Hyundai reported to police that the vehicle had been carjacked.
All three vehicles involved in the crashes were taken by police to its Seneca Street garage.
