A Kenmore woman veered off a trail near Whirlpool State Park Friday afternoon and fell into the lower Niagara River, according to New York State Park Police.
Police rescue patrols, arriving at the scene, found the woman had strayed off a marked trail to the water's edge when she slipped on a rock and fell into the water, police said.
The woman managed to hold on to a rock about 10 feet offshore, while a family member used a sweatshirt to pull her to safety, police said.
Park Police declined to identify the 39-year-old woman, who was treated at the scene for minor abrasions.
She was also issued a summons, for "failing to use established ways," authorities said.
