Niagara Falls taunts Citizens Bank over "zombie homes"

Niagara Falls city workers posted signs this week in front of five long-vacant houses, taunting Citizens Bank, the mortgage holder, for neither selling nor repairing the structures.

The signs say, "How Did This Zombie Get Here? We're Looking at You, Citizens Bank."

They are found at addresses on 16th and 77th streets and Frontier, Lindbergh and LaSalle avenues.

Citizens Bank spokesman Rory Sheehan said the bank is following legal processes.

"We have been in contact with local officials and are committed to maintaining any property in this situation," he said.

"Citizens Bank is responding with words that say nothing," retorted Seth Piccirillo, city community development director. "Foreclosures and sales, advertised with a realtor, are the only real remedies. Absent that, we will vigorously pursue accountability."
