Golfer Penna sets record
Nick Penna shot a round of 32 on Friday, setting the Albion school record for lowest round over nine holes.
The senior shot the 3-under par round at Hickory Ridge as Albion defeated Barker in a Niagara-Orleans league match.
Penna shot a bogey-free round with birdies on hole Nos. 1, 3 and 5. He chipped in for birdie on No. 3 and got a lucky break off a tree on No. 8, making a putt to save par.
Ken West rallies
Keenan Kasperek scored the game-winning goal at the 71 minute mark to give Kenmore West a come-from-behind win over Williamsville South in the Coaches vs. Cancer Invitational held at Sweet Home. Alex Fusani had two goals for Ken West.
In other games from the Coaches vs. Cancer Invitational, Kyle Ingraham scored two goals for Hamburg as the Bulldogs drew a 3-3 tie with Niagara Wheatfield while Williamsville North beat Newfane, 8-0.
NT tops Tonawanda
Colin Archibald had a five-point night as North Tonawanda defeated Tonawanda, 6-2, at the Tonawanda Boys Soccer Tournament. Archibald scored three goals with two assists. Jason Lindhurst also scored twice for the Lumberjacks. Aaron Holler scored both goals for Tonawanda.
Also at the Tonawanda Tournament, Feysal Osman scored twice in Riverside’s 3-2 win over Wilson.
Cheektowaga wins in PKs
Aakar Htut scored what proved to be the game-winner in penalty kicks as Cheektowaga edged City Honors, 3-2, at the Frontier Boys Soccer Tournament. The Warriors tied the game, 2-2, with 15 minutes left in regulation. The game went to penalty kicks and while goaltender Ryan Moretta made three saves, Htut scored to give Cheektowaga the win. The Warriors will meet Frontier at 1:30 p.m. Saturday for the championship after the hosts blanked Eden, 6-0.
